ANDY SHERWOOD PMA®-CPT, NASM-CPT
Andy Sherwood is a PMA® Certified Pilates Teacher. After receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts from New York University, she took her art background to the forefront of the fashion industry. After a few years of feeling unsatisfied and overworked, the job had taken a toll on her body. She looked for a system of exercise that encompassed a holistic method while still strengthening and toning her body. She found Pilates in 2000 and became a dedicated student of the Pilates Method.
In 2003, she began training with reputable Power Pilates in both New York and California. Andy began supplementing her Pilates training with study at the New York Open School of Wholistic and Integrative Nutrition & Healing. Wanting to further her Pilates knowledge, she went to Hawaii. There she studied under the tutelage of Karen Stubbs who hails from the prestigious Pilates Center of Boulder, the “Harvard of Pilates Teacher Training Programs.” Upon completion of her rigorous Pilates training, which included over 600 hours of training, Andy began teaching clients at the most premier resorts and private clubs. She also developed the first YMCA Pilates program on the island of Hawaii. She was able to continue her love of nature, health, yoga, and surfing while living on the island.
In 2007, New York came calling once again and Andy started teaching in the some of the most world renowned Pilates studios. She continued her education studying under the likes of Bob Liekens, Brooke Siler, Shari Berkowitz, Rebekah Rothstein and others. Andy continued to complement her Pilates training with studying the Alexander Technique, aromatherapy, and holistic healing.
In 2010, she enhanced her training by becoming a PMA® Certified Pilates Teacher, the only nationally recognized certification program.
Andy has since returned to Hawaii every winter to teach, and in 2010 started her first Pilates retreat, under Aloha Wellness Retreats.
In 2013, by her own will and at the request of some her clients, she received her personal training certification from National Academy of Sports Medicine. She now does one on one training with clients and also implements it into her Pilates sessions when appropriate. Each session is tailor made to the client depending on needs and feedback from client.
She has literally taught all over the word, acting as a guest teacher to some of the world's best health retreats and private clubs. She divides her time between teaching at studios in New York City, Brooklyn, Westchester, and Hawaii.
Andy continues to help clients find well-being, strength, and balance through Pilates and training. She is committed to providing compassionate and complete instruction to her clients that include celebrities, supermodels, high profile athletes, and rehabilitative. Education and knowledge are endless and she will continue to gain as much knowledge in this field while passing it on to others.
